Student who refused to go home for coronavirus lockdown dies in boyfriend‘s house after ‘unsafe‘ abortion

The university student died at her boyfriend’s home after he failed to return home before the COVID 19 lockdown.

The student, identified as Claire Natukunda, died in Maganjo, in the house of her husband, identified as Junju. She was reportedly pregnant for two months.

Junju wasn’t at home when his 20-year-old girlfriend died because he had gone to Kampala to raise money to help him take Claire to the hospital. He was requested to be released by the authorities and detained at his arrival and taken to the Kawempe police station where he spent the night of Wednesday.

The body was first taken to the nearby Community Hospital Kawempe Lugoba before it was taken to Mulago for postmortem.

According to her telephone message exchanges, Natukunda seemed to have family disputes with her parents and siblings who were staying in Kitemu on the road to Masaka. Messages suggest that they asked her to come home, but she declined, opting to stay with her husband.
