U/W: Mentally-ill man allegedly kills one, injures two at Desime


A man believed to be mentally challenged has killed a 36-year-old man, Tituo Mumuni at Desime in the Sissala West District of the Upper West region.

The suspect, Issah Mahamadu, 40, also inflicted cutlass wounds on two others, Sule Issah, 45 and Osman Nuhu,  48.

Inspector Gideon Ohene Boateng, Upper West Regional Police Public Relations Officer (PRO) who made this known to Citi News said the incident happened on Tuesday.

He said the deceased who was pronounced dead at the Sissala East Municipal hospital at Tumu has been released to the family for burial in accordance with Islamic tradition.

The two who were injured got treated and discharged at the same facility.

The PRO said the suspect is on police inquiry bail while investigations are ongoing to get to the bottom of the matter.

He disclosed that the suspect will be sent to a psychiatric hospital for examination before any action will be taken against him.

“For now he will be examined. The law will not give anybody the chance to play smart on security services. Unless we are sure of his mental condition we can’t conclude on anything.”

Inspector Ohene assured the public to remain calm and cooperate with the security to ensure peace in the Region.
