Even before the New Patriotic Party (NPP) gives the green light for persons seeking to contest as flagbearers to succeed President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo ahead of 2024 to campaign, there appears to be a plot to incite delegates against the candidature of Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.
Prominent persons who have also been targeted include the Minister of Energy Dr Mathew Opoku Prempeh and Minister of Parliamentary Affairs who doubles as Majority Leader Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu.
The latest comes barely weeks after some top journalists and producers in Accra, were coached to start an image smear campaign against the second gentleman of the state.
The journalists including some producers of popular political programmes it would be recalled were expected to target Akan-dominated areas and whip up the tribal and religious card in order to court disaffection for Dr Bawumia.
In the latest meeting which occurred in the Ashanti Region on October 27, 2021 at the home of a former Member of Parliament (MP) with two former lawmakers and a former NPP national executive in attendance, discussions were centered on sponsoring candidates in the upcoming Polling Station and Constituency elections with a target of securing at least 3 out of 5 in every polling station.
Among other issues that topped the discussions include; the use of some local radio stations and Assembly members to sell the candidature of Mr. John Alan Kwadwo Kyeremanten to market women in order to create ‘NO Alan NO VOTE’ mantra in the Ashanti Region considered the World Bank of the NPP.
An insider who sat through the meeting revealed to MyNewsGh.com that they were to fashion out a way of telling delegates that any Ashanti man supporting Bawumia is for that person’s Vice-presidential ambition including the majority Leader, NAPO etc.
In all these, tools to be used in prosecuting the agenda was digging deep and establishing how Dr. Bawumia obtained his membership card issued to him by Nana Ohene Ntow, Why Bawumia could not obtain a membership card when NPP appointed him as governor at BOG except when he was nominated as a running mate and How Bawumia and his wife sponsored their relatives to unseat many NPP MPs including Boniface
These and attempts to link him to the appointment of the MMDCEs were top on the agenda including claims of how he lost all the 35 polling stations at his hometown.
It is unclear when this agenda will commence but Mr. Alan Kwadwo Kyeremanten who is a serving Minister under the Akufo-Addo administration though has not officially declared his intentions to contest, is expected to face off with Dr. Bawumia if both outdoor their intentions to run.
