It was an interesting spectacle to behold when the Deputy Speaker of Parliament Joe Osei Wusu ruled in favour of the minority National Democratic Congress. This happened after NPP’s Atta Akyea and his colleagues raised a motion that the Assin North MP should be taken out of the chamber because he has been barred by the courts.

This motion was vehemently opposed by the minority side. They explained that, the case is still pending in a competent court of jurisdiction on appeal. They added that, until the appeal of the Assin North MP is heard and determined, he still remains a member of the House.

The NPP side shot down at this pronouncement. The continuous misunderstanding as to whether James Quayson should sit or leave the House had to be determined by the acting Speaker of Parliament Joe Osei Wusu.

Interestingly, Joe Osei Wusu ruled in favour of the NDC side. He was of the view that both sides of the House should wait for the final ruling of the Court. He also promised to engage the leaders of the House to build a consensus on the matter.

In a nutshell, the Assin North MP was allowed to sit in the chamber as an Honorable Member of Parliament. As the debate was ongoing, James Quayson could be seen fidgeting with his nose mask waiting patiently for the final verdict of the speaker.
